Join the K12 Workshop

Puerto Rico Impact Week will host a special free event for Puerto Rican K12 leaders and stakeholders, bringing together local and global research and case studies to explore innovation, impact and research in primary and secondary education.

The event is sponsored by the 21st Century Techforce Initiative and brings together educators, researchers, investment and technology leaders.

Presentation. Brookings Institution

  • Presenters: Rebecca Winthrop, Director of the Center for Universal Education.

  • Description. Schools with strong family engagement are ten times more likely to improve student learning outcomes and, when implemented effectively, can be a highly cost-effective investment. The Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution has undertaken extensive global research on the benefits of school-family engagement for student success and outcomes for school systems. 

    Brookings 'playbook' for family-school engagement offers a set of resources and tools for understanding the four goals (improving attendance & completion, improve learning and development, redefining the purpose of school for students, redefining the purpose of school for society) and highlights findings from a review of over 500 strategies. The interactive database features more than 60 family-school engagement strategies, and other resources include research papers, conversation starter tools, and a playbook report. 


Panel on K12 Opportunity Areas Through Tech Enablement (45 mins)

  • Description: Learn how integrating technology, prioritizing coherent solutions, and a differentiated investment approach can address systemic challenges, improve outcomes for all students, and pave the way for sustainable, equitable educational progress both with success stories from the mainland and a case study from Puerto Rico.


Presentation on: Cultivating Leadership and Literacy: Systemic Change in Educational Practice (45 mins)

  • Presenters: One World Network of Schools (Lariely Garcia)

  • Description: Strategies to enhance literacy and leadership in learning, manage change, and unify stakeholders for educational progress today.
